Chief’s Corner

Chief William J. Smith has been a member of the Holbrook Police Department for 30 years. He was first hired in 1987 as a patrol officer and moved up the ranks to acting sergeant in February 2009 before quickly getting promoted to sergeant in February 2010.

In June 2014, Chief Smith was promoted to Interim Chief of the Holbrook Police Department and, shortly after, was named Chief in July 2015. Since becoming Chief, he has created the department’s Special Operations Unit, established a Traffic Unit and Safety Officer Program, developed an Active Shooter Program for Holbrook police officers, hired six new officers including a drug K-9, and has begun the certification and accreditation process.

Chief Smith holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Western New England College, completed the Suffolk University MMA Certificate Program and is a graduate of Holbrook High School. He also holds certifications in law enforcement management, budget management, identity theft, and is the recipient of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Life Saving Award.
